Are satnav systems with speed camera detection illegal in France?

Unless I've read it wrong, an article in this week's Motorcycle News says that in France it's now illegal to have a satnav with camera site warnings under a new law that came into force on 4 January. Is this correct? It also says it's going to be a legal requirement to wear high visibility clothing on a motorbike.

Another reader went to the trouble of translating the French official cobblers about this so I ran it as a FAQ. It means that a lot of cars built since about 2003 and factory fitted with satnav that identifies fixed sites are illegal for use in France. The French seem to be telling us, "Don't go there".
