Changing from a thirsty S-Type to something smaller?

I have a 2002 S-Type Jaguar - value say £500. It is well maintained and I love everything about it but it costs me £3600 a year in petrol at an average of 26mpg. I'm a pensioner and I need to reduce my outgoings. What do you suggest?

Unless it's in terrible condition your car should be worth more than £500. 2.5V6 worth at least £1,120 trade; 3.0V6 at least £1,470; 4.2V8 at least £1,750. Replacing it with an efficient small automatic such as a Suzuki Splash would cost from about £4,750, minus your part-exchange.
