What might have caused my 320d injector pump to fail?

Have just had the fuel injection pump on a 2000 BMW 320D replaced at a cost of £2,500. Trying to find out if BMW's recall on the fuel pre-delivery pump in 2004 applies to my car. Also, I know my pre-delivery pump has not been replaced - would that have resulted in the fuel injection pump failing?

We can't tell you if this applies to your car. Failure of the fuel tank sender pump would simply mean that no fuel was coming through to the engine compartment to be pumped into the engine. I guess if the injection pump ran dry then that could cause damage from lack of lubricity from the fuel itself.
