What do you make of diesel ECU tuning?

More and more people are looking at tuning their diesels for more economy and or power.
In this day and age of ridiculous fuel prices isn't it time we had a decent investigation into the pros and cons of diesel tuning, whether it be with a tuning box or a re-map of the ECU?

I feel sure that most people would very much like to know which of the two tuning methods is the best and whether the tuning box is as bad for the diesel engine as some tuners would have us believe.

I have had diesels re-mapped in the past and have seen as much as 10mpg more which has to be a good thing especially as diesel is getting more and more expensive.

Like any aftermarket mode, some are good and some are bad, so I only send people to www.superchips.co.uk The bugbear is that any modification voids your warranty and invalidates your comprehensive insurance unless it has been disclosed to the insurer, in which case the premium hike make be greater than the benefit.
