Renault Megane Scenic parking brake problem

We had a battery problem and had to start the car by manually releasing the automatic handbrake.

We rolled the car back and up a small slope. The brake was pressed and then it would not move. It released itself and now we have a message saying check parking brake. The parking brake does not seem to be on as the wheels do not smell of burning etc. The message disappeared until I replaced the battery and now its back.

Well given that the parking brake is working okay you could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect BUT DO NOT switch anything on at all. Leave for 30 mins then restart the engine, hopefully this has allowed the ECU to reset itself.

If not then you will have to get the ECU reset by a garage/dealership.
