Ford Focus in-tank fuel pump

The in-tank fuel pump in my July 2009, 1.6 Petrol Ford Focus failed on 26 December 2012. The AA transported the car 140 miles to my local independent garage who replaced the fuel pump at a cost of £406.

As they said they had quite a few of these pumps fail recently they suggested that I contact Ford to see if they would contribute towards the cost, especially since the car has only covered 30,000 miles and was just five months out of warranty.

Needless to say Ford is not interested because the repair was not carried out at a Ford dealer (at no doubt twice the price!)

Is there anything else I could do to try to get a contribution from Ford or would I just be wasting my time.

Firstly, Fords are only warranted by Ford for 12 months. The remaining 24 months of the 36 year warranty are Ford dealer warranty. Secondly, Ford is never liable for work it or its dealers ahve not carried out. Will add the problem to car by car, though.
