Suspension dropped on my Passat after a loud bang.

My 59-plate Volkswagen Passat was sitting stationery in the drive when a loud bang was heard and alarm went off.

On examining the car it appeared the left back chassis has dropped onto wheel. The car has only done 32,000 miles. It's had a service in September 2012, any idea how much this will cost? The warranty finished in September 2012.

I'd guess that a coil spring has snapped about half way up and the shock set off the alarm. If there's fatigue, then temperature changes can cause this. Springs usually snap on people's driveways. If I'm right, not too expensive. £100 - £200, if they can do the job where the car is rather than have to transport it to a garage (which could in itself cause a lot more damage).
