Intermittent cooling light on Golf

My engine coolant light has been coming on. It does not come on every time I start my car it only does it when I use my car first thing in the morning and it goes off once I start driving. It only started doing this within the last 2 weeks. Why is it doing this?

Possibly an airlock in the cooling system caused by switching on the heater for the first time after the summer.
