TPMS caused a flat

I've owned by Renault Laguna 52 plate for about a year now and hubby unforutnately had a flat tyre on it this week which will result in the tyre being replaced as it has been damaged.

The tyre has been taken off the alloy and it appears the car has a sensor on the valve cap and its the valve cap that had a leak on it which caused the flat tyre.

I wasn't aware the car had this function because I don't get any tyre pressure readings on the dash nor do I get any message to say the facility is not working so I'm presuming its been turned off or something.

My question is do I have to put a new sensor back on which I understand is expensive or can I just get the tyre people to put a rubber one on?

Check what is fitted to the other wheels. If the other wheels have them and it's an original system then really you should replace like with like. Though by far the cheapest option will be to remove all four and disarm the tyre pressure warning system. These systems do suffer from corrosion of the valve stems and it could be that is why it has never appeared to have worked.
