Damage from loose chippings

My husband drove onto a road where there were loose chippings, driving 10 miles an hour, and the chippings damaged my rear brakes - costing me £192. The council are blaming the contractors, but surely they are the ones who employed them, how can I make them pay as we have no chance against the big boys who have already tried to quietly threaten me on the phone?

If you think you have a case, take it to the small claims track of the county court. Warn the council that is what you intend to do first and they may relent.
