Replacing a Mk1 Jazz

I'm looking to replace my Jazz (Mk1) Sport (2006) which has been fairly good for the last 6 years (owned from new) and want something reliable, economical to run/insure, but with better acceleration and being more fun to drive.

Ideally want decent boot space and am considering buying new (Drive the Deal) where I can get a Zetec S Fiesta for under £12k with options required.

Also considering the VW Polo R line / Seat ST FR - 1.2 TSi engined cars at a similar price, but I'm concerned with high oil consumption, technical problems mentioned on forums.

The Fiesta seems the safer bet (admittedly not massive boot) but what MPG will I get in the real world?

I intend to keep the 'new' car for probably 5 years.

Lots of VAG cars with chain cam engines seem to suffer high oil consumption. Maybe because they are filled with synthetic oil on the production line. I'd add a Mazda 2 1.3TS2 and a Suzuki Swift to your list.
