Hit by a foreign driver

I was hit by a foreign lorry driver who drove off. I have his numberplate and I gave the police the details. I was on the inside lane of the roundabout when the back end the lorry came into my lane and hit my left hand side wing.

The police told me to stop chasing him - what should I do?

Leave it in the hands of your insurers. Nothing else you can do. They will probably not be able to get a settlement from the truck driver's insurers. But the driver did commit an offence in driving away if he was aware of the crash. He might not have been aware. If you drove into the inside lane of the roundabout while the truck was negotiating it then it was your fault anyway for failing to anticipate the amount of room the truck would need. If you were there first, then it's the truck driver's fault.
