Is my car an imposter?

I am in the process of buying a type r 53plate.

It was imported from the Isle of Man in 2010 with low miles. I have spoken today to the seller and he has informed me that the logbook states it is a Civic E but this is a error from the DVLA.

He says he has conformation from Honda that the car is actually a Type R via the chassis number that is on the VIN plate and front screen. This came about as he bought the car from a salvage without keys and had to get a set fom Honda.

He gave them the reg number and they came back with details of a E model. After giving the correct chassis number they then ordered the keys and they fitted every lock on car.

Just after some thought on the DVLA getting things wrong? Could this happen and what would I need to do to rectify this.

As said Honda have confirmed the car IS a Type R but all HPI checks that run through reg number come back as an E model.

He said he has an HPI check via the chassis number and the car is a Type R.

If i got the seller to sign a declaration stating the car is a Type R model would this stand up if I took them to court if mis-sold an E model?

You want the car to be a Type R. But it might not be. So the wisest thing to do is do not do the deal.
