Ford Focus DPF problems

Have had the engine light come on and engine malfunction message displayed on my Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI. The car restricted itself to 40 MPH.

Have taken it to Hendy and they have told me that fluids need to be topped up and also that the diesel particulate filter will need to be replaced.

Then, apparently, if it won't regenerate (?) I will need to buy a new catalytic converter for £1500, which I absolutely can't afford - and has strayed somewhat from the original estimate of 130 for a dpf, to 300 for a dpf plus fluid.

Car is a 57 plate diesel, and has had all services and not from the Hendy dealer that it was bought from. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Refilling with Eolys fluid and a forced regeneration might save it. If this can't then you are in for a new DPF (not a new cat; the DPF incorporated the cat) and the cost of that will be £1,000 + Becoming common on the 1.6TDCI.
