Winter wheels for Yorkshire

I have retired to the Yorkshire Dales and anticipating a bad winter have decided to get rid of my trusty old Peugeot 406 and buy a 4x4 pick-up truck. You talk about diesel particulate filters and that vehicles need to do a certain amount of mileage for them to work properly. I average about fifty miles a week with the shortest trip being three miles and the longest twelve miles plus the odd long trip back down south. Would I be all right with a pick-up with one of these filters?

You will probably be okay. The best drivetrain is in the Isuzu Rodeo: either 2.5 or 3.0 I-TEQ chain cam diesel engines, both very amiable, and a lovely transmission. The base vehicle is getting a bit long in the tooth now and its new Chevrolet Colorado equivalent has been shown in Motor Shows all year. That finally gets on the road this month, along with the new Ford Ranger. Though supplies may be delayed because the Thai factories that build them were flooded.
