The claim game

Yesterday we got a letter from our car insurance company (More than - we have had our insurance with them for over 30 years), stating that "We have been contacted by a third party who has informed us that your vehicle may have been involved in an incident on the above date." The date is 20th July. The name of the third party is given, also reg. number, but Make and Model: "Unknown", and "Incident location: unknown".

I wonder if this is a scam? As it happens on 20th July the car was parked in our drive all day. Luckily we noted the "things to do" on a calendar. I have written to the insurance company and told them. Has our number plate been cloned? Is the Third Party trying something on? Do we just sit tight and wait to see what the insurance company will do?

Definitely a scam and you should report to your insurer that you suspect it is a scam. Tell them to get the police involved as someone is obviously attempting to defraud the insurer with a spurious claim.
