Why is my Volvo S60's door lock sticking when I try to unlock the car?

My 2002 Volvo S60 2.0T was serviced by a Volvo dealership earlier this week and I asked them to look at the front passenger door, which will not open immediately on unlocking the car. There is a clicking noise from the door for a few minutes (which appears to vary with the weather hot or cold) and the doorknob does not rise. When the clicking stops, if I lock and then unlock the doors, the knob rises and the door will open. The garage could not find anything wrong with it but cleaned up the connections, but it has not solved the problem.

The clicking is the electrical relay trying to open a stuck mechanism, so it's clear from this that the actual lock is sticking. It might free up with oil or Water Dispersant 40. It’s important to fix this before it sticks completely and then you can’t open the door to get the panel off to access it.
