How can I renew my road tax online when my insurance expires on the same date?

For the last two years I have tried without success to renew my road tax online. The problem is that my insurance runs out on the same date as the licence. On both occasions I had renewed the insurance well in advance and was in possession of a valid certificate starting on the date of the new tax period. Whether this is the fault of the DVLA or the motor insurance industry, I do not know, but it should surely be possible sort the system out without too much problem. There must be thousands of motorists in the same position as myself.

I did it on Thursday and the disc arrived on Saturday. But I have taken the precaution of staggering my insurance, tax and MoT. It’s easy to stagger the tax against the other two. Just renew the tax a month earlier one year. You lose a month's tax (in my case a mere £2.50). But then you have no hassle.

I taxed my new (to me, but second hand) car for 12 months from 28.3.2022, but the DVLA reminder is telling me that it expires and needs renewing from 28.2.2023. Why am I only getting 11 months' tax?
