Can my engine be fixed

I purchased an 04 reg Golf second hand in 2009. I have had it regularly serviced, although not by a VW dealer. Two weeks ago, having parked it overnight, and having no previous noted faults, in the morning it would not start, but turned over.

Thinking it was possibly battery I called my local garage, to whom the car is known. After exhaustive examination, both by them and a VW expert it was revealed that "the pulley bolt was loose, the pistons had interfered with the valves and one or two cylinders, the timing had slipped, and there was no compression in no.2 cylinder." As you can gather, I am not very technical. I don't know what to do.

Basically the engine is wrecked, but I cannot tell you if it is beyond repair. You need a member of www.fer.co.uk for that.
