Ford S-Max choices

I'm interested in a young-ish used Ford S-Max with Powershift gearbox to replace my 2006 Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi DSG estate.

I would choose the S-Max 2.0 diesel but I'm worried about DPF issues; we live in SW London and most Mon-Fri journeys are short, from a cold start.

The 2.0 EcoBoost petrol engine sounds a nice drive but what fuel consumption can we expect, specially on the (once a fortnight) longer runs we do? There are lots of 2010 and early 2011 'Titanium X Sport' versions around at tempting prices but is the petrol engine in 240hp tune even thirstier than the standard 203hp unit? under normal driving?

Also, does the 'Sport' suspension setup kill the ride quality (assuming equivalent tyres)?; my wife's back is not 100%.

Test of the S-Max 2.0 Ecoboost 203 Powershift here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/ford/ford-s-max-20.../

Don't have real life economy figures for it. Type of use yo descripe I'd reckon about 25mpg, rising to about 33mpg on a run.

Diesel 140, your type of daily use about 30mpg, rising to about 36mpg on a run.
