Water leak in a Ford Galaxy

I have a 55 plate Ford Galaxy which has developed a water leak near the tailgate nearside. I have been unable to trace where the water is coming in. The carpet is damp from nearside to about the centre of the car. This problem has only started in the last few months. I do not know if the water is coming in when the car is moving or when it is parked.

You can check the seal by drying both seal and mating surface then smearing the mating surface with lard or butter, then closing and re-opening the hatch. Wherever the lard or butter has not transferred to the seal is where the water is coming in.
