Meriva Power Steering - why no recall?

In short, I recently bought my son a 2004 plate Vauxhall Meriva with FSH and only 60k on clock. This was to replace his aging Peugeot which I deemed as unsafe!

All went well until today when he rang me distressed to tell me that when he was going around a roundabout he lost the Power Steering and the EPS light came on.

Because this caught him by surprise he went over a lane and nearly had a serious accident with another car.

My concern turned to anger when I looked this up on the internet and found other persons complaining of the very same fault and Vauxhalls refusal to do a recall.

This is a very serious problem .

What is it going to take for Vauxhall to recall all Merivas and fix this known
fault ? A loss of life (cannot be that far away)

Vauxhall has refused to recall Merivas and VOSA has refused to compel Vauxhall to recall them despite the Watchdog programme and everything else. The problem is caused by drivers holding the steering on full lock, which burns out the power steering electric motor.
