A new large car

Car salesmen decline to confirm whether models are chain or belt cam. They are unwilling to disclose how much it will cost to replace belts at 50,000 miles or on five year old car.

This leads me to suppose that it is much more than the value of a five year old car!

One claimed that all cars are now fitted with belt cam and that every driver needs to replace belts within five years. This will obviously destroy the secondhand value of any car of three to five years old. What similar size cars have chain cam engines?

i40 are all all chain cam, VW Passat 1.8TFSI and 2.0TFSI are chain cam, but the 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesels are belt. Same engines in the Superb. Mazda 6s are all chain cam.
