Deposit paid to dealer but no vehicle

Paid a deposit on a motorhome (trader selling it) after I left I needed some info so emailed him with info required. He has never contacted me I always contact him and get excuses, he had agreed to deliver the vehicle where upon I would pay outstanding balance. 10 days later he say it needs all sort or work done but at the time of viewing he said ir was perfect would get it moted when he delivered it (2hr drive), I have found out he sold the vehicle to someone else after me.
As I paid a deposit to secure the vehicle which was one of his requirements I believe the law say the vechle has been removed from sale.
So If I have a contract with him and he is not alowed to sell it do I have any rights to the vehicle as the contract with the second Buyer appears to be null and void as the trader had given up his right to sell it unless I agree to it.
I believe he is in breach of contract and can I ask for a vehicle similar to the one I contracted for. return of deposit is not the way I want to go.
cheers

Yes he is in breach of contract, but in practical terms all you can sue for is the return of your deposit.
