Immortal cars with towbars

You have helped me considerably with my quest for a cheap (up to £4000) stylish economical car with leather seats, and have suggested a MX5 or BMW Z3, and I am also considering an MGTF - my local garage has a nice example for £2995.

Occasionally I need to transport children's stuff to and from university etc. Is there any reason why I could not attach a towbar for towing a small trailer to a 2 seater sports car?

The local garage has an MGTF with 50,000 miles and a Toyota Celica with 100,000 miles, both for just under £3000. Reliability is important, although I do look after my cars. I would like this car to last for 6/7 years and 100,000 miles (15,000 miles a year) until I reach retirement age and my circumstances change. Would the Toyota or the MG be a better bet?

I don't know if an MGTF can take a towing hook.

I would not reasonably expect any aging £3k mile car to last another 7 years and to 100,000 miles.

Cars are generally built to last just 7 years from new and anything beyond that is a bonus.
