Car bought without valid VED
This was late on a Saturday, so I waited until Monday morning and taxed at the Post Office, so now I'm all legal - but: Where do I stand with recourse to the dealer?I bought the vehicle in good faith and believed his claim about the tax - I glanced at the disc with its big month '06' expiry but never looked closer at the year.
When test driving the car (forecourt dealer) there were no trade plates put on the car which my wife and I took out for a drive on our own.
I did, of course, accept the change of ownership, so all legalities are then passed on to me - it would be my responsibility to ensure the unit was taxed I would think.
However, I've had to stump up £95 which I wasn't expecting to, and from a salesmans claim I have been effectively driving with invalid insurance etc.
So how do I get some recourse from a dealer when they may just say it's my responsibility even though there was a fraudulent claim about tax, and illegal road use when test driving. They may say it's my word against theirs?
And In case your'e wondering, the June 2008 expiry tax disc is the same colour as 2011.

You have been illegal since the end of January and could now face an additional fine for failing to SORN and for back tax. You could try suing the dealer but it will be a difficult case to prove.
