Meriva EPS steering fault on older cars

I understand that Vauxhall are now repairing faulty electric power steering free of charge on cars up to 5 years old, but my partner owns a 53 plate model.

Is there any guidance or way we can get this repaired without paying the £900 odd? After all the fault is still a known manufacturing issue and a safety concern.

As outlined in car-by-car breakdown (www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/vauxhall/meriva-2003...d).

However, no liability by Vauxhall for an 8-year-old car.
