Abnormal oil consumption

This car has been using a litre of oil every three weeks from new.

Audi Liverpool (the suppliers) say that could be normal as Audi engines always use a fair amount of oil when new.

They now admit that there is something seriously wrong with the engine and say they will replace the pistons/piston rings and valve gear if necessary. There are no signs of smoke from the exhaust and no oil drips on drive. Such work will be done under warranty.

Was this vehicle 'fit for purpose' when supplied? Should the three year warranty be extended to start from the engine rebuild? I find that I am becoming less than confident in the mechanics of this car.

Unfortunately this abnormality is becoming the norm for Audi engines. The reason is that VAG now fills its engines with Longlife Oil on the production line and this can prevent the oil rings from bedding in during the engine's formative years.
