Degenerate

I have just been on the BMW website. There they have a new BMW 3 series 320d ED. From the news article it seems to be a very good car at BMW prices. Do you have any pre-launch details of this car?

News announcement and also in car by car breakdown at www.honestjohn.co.uk I’m sceptical because driving this car at its most economical engine speeds will counter the function of the diesel particulate filter that normally requires 2,000rpm plus to regenerate. I'd like to see at least 6 months of testing before recommending the car. That said, I did run a Focus ECOnetic for 14 months, did average 55mpg over 8,000 miles (and did regularly regenerate the DPF because the gearing meant I was running at over 2,000rpm most of the time). I strongly doubt that the BMW will do better in mixed use.
