Four by flaw

I have recently taken delivery of an Audi Q5 2.0 Tdi STronic and whilst delighted with most aspects of the car, fuel consumption is disappointing. I've done several long journeys, mix of motorway, A & B roads with little urban driving. Both my wife and I drive reasonably spiritedly (steady 80 on motorways and up to 70 on As and Bs (where conditions allow). Averaging just over 30mpg. Reports and Audi's combined figures show much better. What do you think?

You’re trying to push a brick though the air a bit too quickly. There should not be significant losses through the STronic transmission. Maybe there is something wrong with the complex drivetrain. With the same engine I did 620 miles (100 miles cross-country) on one tank of fuel in a SEAT Exeo 2.0TDI with the same common rail piezo injected engine. Total average speed 59mph. Total fuel economy 50mpg. Later I managed a 67mpg average, also at 50mpg.
