Scrapping the barrel

My son has a car that qualifies for the government scrap scheme. He is looking to spend after the allowance £4,000. He has looked at Kia Percanto, Renault Twingo, Fiat Panda and Chevrolet Matiz. He does about 10,000-12,000 miles a year. What would you recommend taking servicing and reliability into account?

Not quite enough money. The Picanto at £4,195 is the only car that comes close, but the price goes up in August. The Matiz is £4,295. The Suzuki Alto and Nissan Pixo are £4,795. The VW Fox is £4,875, the FIAT Panda is £4,995, the Hyundai i10 1.3 Classic is £4,995. UK allocations of some of these models are now all sold, and 2010 models with ESP are £250 - £300 more expensive.
