Porsched egg

The bottom line is I spent £32,000 on a Porsche 997 that after 3 months ownership and 2,000 miles now needs £8,700 spent on it for an engine rebuild. Porsche is saying "nothing to do with me", and the garage stating it’s Porsche and therefore "noting to do with us". The dealer wrote: “As I believe you have discussed with Ben, the situation is clear regarding the warranty situation with the car. I understand that is unfortunate in the extreme that this problem occurred outside of the warranty period. Had it occurred within the first three months since purchase we would have under our statutory obligations, assisted with the rectification of any faults. Likewise, had you opted for the extended warranty at the time of purchase, you would also be covered. We cannot contribute financially to a problem with a car that falls out of our warranty period.” Please can you help - I am so frustrated and really do appreciate anything you can do.

£32k is cheap for a 997. But it is a dealer price, not a trade price. You bought retail, therefore you are protected by legislation that actually forces the selling dealer to GUARANTEE the car against any defects that could have been present before you purchased it. The onus is on the dealer to disprove that the problem was there, not on you to prove it was there. This dealer obviously does not know his law or is trying to bend it to suit himself.
