I purchased a 2006 Vauxhall Zafira from a dealer, in March 2010. Mileage 59,000, current mileage 61,000. 1600cc. A flashing engine management light was rectified by a garage recommended by dealer, and paid for by myself: £115. A new clutch is now required, estimated cost quoted by a Vauxhall dealer £1,000. Nationwide Autocentres quotes £360. In your opinion, would the selling dealer be liable for some, or all of the aforementioned costs? Would I be justified in requesting "Nationwide" to fit a replacement clutch and send the bill in to the dealer? Would I be justified in requesting the dealer to refund the £115 paid to the dealer's Garage?

Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights Basically the dealer is responsible for rectifying both faults or for taking the car back and giving you your money back. Since you gave him the opportunity to fix the first fault and he referred you somewhere else, he is liable for that cost. He is also liable for replacing the clutch.
