Frozen out

I wonder if you can offer some advice, please? I've got a 1997R reg VW Polo and in the current freezing weather I'm having issues with sticking door locks (although WD40 appears to have sorted this), but now I'm getting the problem that although the doors are unlocked they still wont open as they appear to have frozen shut, so far repeated warm water down the side or sprays of de-icer have been getting me into the car but is this a design fault or does my door seal need replacing or something?

Silicone grease wiped over the door seals or, if you can't find any, silicone furniture polish.
