Hit and grunt

Another insurance con is that if someone hits your car and you are fully comp then the other driver turns out to be uninsured it is counted as a "your fault" accident at renewal time if you claimed on your policy for the repairs. This brings me to another issue - that insurance companies let you buy insurance on monthly tick. You get your insurance certificate, get the car taxed, let the payments lapse and, unless you are lucky enough to get caught by the odd policeman that is still out and about, drive for the next eleven months without insurance. Of course if the uninsured driver hits you it’s your fault. Don't forget all those cameras do not catch uninsured, untaxed and un MOT'd cars.

That’s what Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems are for. The Motor Insurers Database (www.askmid.co.uk) removes insurance from the database if it is not paid for so any car thus not insured would be picked up by an ANPR check.
