Nissan Micra 2003 (K12) - Locked out - emergency key doesn't open door? - mattie_uk

Hi all

The battery died hence the remote central locking doesn't function.

As per the manual, I popped off the cover on the emergency physical key lock on the passenger side, but although the key itself turns nice and freely it doesn't appear to 'catch' on anything, so I can't open the door.

Any thoughts? There are no other physical locks that I can see on the vehicle, and it's stuck in a garage in a locked and handbraked/in-gear position so shifting it isn't possible.

All advice gratefully received

Matt

Sadly not!

I might just jack it up and run a battery charger between the starter cable (I think I can get a hand on it from underneath) and the sub-frame.

Should get enough charge to at least pop the central locking.

Advice on how to best avoid melting or breaking anything would be appreciated.

Really a pretty poor design, if you're going to have only a single physical lock mechanism as back-up to the electrical system it had better be a bomb-proof physical mechanism. This has failed the first time it's required. That is not good.

I've had a quick look at chargers, some market themselves as jump-starters, is there a difference between them?

hi there,

i had the same problem with my father in laws micra,

it turned out it had a new ignition switch fitted, not uncommon on these micras,

hence keys were different to original door lock,

bought a spare blade from nissan and in i went,

if it has had a new switch fitted they should have left an old one, either with paperwork or as they told me in the glovebox ?, not a lot of use there when your locked out !

if there is one it will only be the blade of the key

good luck

tony
