I assume this is diesel, in which case at that age it will have an IDI engine, very much more reliable than the modern common rail engines. The cam belt and possibly tensioners if needed are by far the most important items to maintain to avoid a catastrophic failure, the engine oil should also be changed regularly, its the frequency of the changes rather than using very expensive oil that is the secret of long engine life. I don't know if the water pump is driven by the cambelt on this model, if so it would be advisable to change that as well.

I only run '90s diesels because not only are they generally more durable than the modern ones but also much cheaper to repair if they do go wrong, they may use a little more fuel but that will likely be more than compenasated for by reduced running costs.
