98 1.6 Changing Front Wheel Bearings - Kildrummy
I will be changing my front wheel bearing this weekend. Can anybody tell me the size the nut on the end of the drive shaft. I am sure I won't have a socket big enough to fit. Don't want to start the job and find I'm short of the tool for the job.

Thanks

The nut size is possibly 30mm. But that could be the least of your problems: getting the old bearing out of the hub carrier is usually a specialised remover (eg Sealey VS7020) and hydraulic press or air tool.
As Scotty Kilner demonstates:

Thanks for that but it's a hub c/w bearing that I am changing.

Cheers

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's that size too. You'll need a deep socket though to accommodate the driveshaft thread that sticks out. Several years ago when I changed a CV joint, I had to get a mate to machine out part of the innards of the socket so that it didn't foul on the driveshaft threads and could reach the nut.

And ideally a hex socket not a Bi-Hex. 1/2 inch drive can be damaged with the torque required to undo the nut so a 3/4 socket and drive bar is what I use. Regards Peter
