I am looking for a replacement for my parents Mondeo - father is finding it too low to climb out of easily. I have considered the Scenic but have been put off by reliability problems, and don`t really want a 4x4. Any ideas please? It needs a lot of (passenger) legroom and large doors if poss.

Skoda Fabia.
Compared with Mondeo has much more upright seats but loses out on boot space.
Compared with Yaris has more headroom and legroom,
better seats and more pliant ride.
(the Yaris has sharper handling, the Fabia has speedo in front of you, but these are not top of your list).

Citroen Berlingo Multispace. Lower than a 4x4 but enormous doors, rear sliders a real boon. And bargain-priced. New 2.0 Hdi is supposed to be the best of the range.

Or a Renault Kangoo. A friend of mine has the 1.9 diesel version and getting in and out is very easy, grab handles too. It's a veritable tardis inside.

Friends of ours with not-very-agile parents confirm that their Yaris Verso is ideal. If your parents don't mind looking like Postman Pat, the Suzuki Wagon R is similarly easy for access.

Worth trying a Ford Focus which was designed by engineers using 'old age' suits which restricted mobility. Doors open wide and seats are at a nice height.
Might even get a decent px on the old Mondeo.

My father is currently in a similar situation. His Audi A3 Sport looks and drives really nicely, but he wants something a bit more versatile for loading, easier to get in and out of especially for very aged relatives travelling in the back! He also wants a perfectly reliable vehicle, which the Audi has not been and one which is capable of devouring long motorway journeys with ease.
He has looked at and driven the Nissan Almera Tino and seems rather impressed. He also plans to look at the Toyota Corrolla Verso.
I imagine either of these would be interesting to your father too.

This car is now off the list because the dealer (Moons of Eccleston) were incredibly unhelpful when my father contacted them to arrange a test drive. The Yaris Verso was never on the list because, to quote my father, "I wouldn't want to be seen in one of them. They look awful."
The current favourite is a Honda Jazz, the versatility of which is a big selling point, as is a helpful dealer in Preston. The stiff suspension is not a problem.
Does anyone have any comments on the suitability of this car for long motorway journeys?
