Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI - Ford Mondeo 54 plate Turbo actuator problem - diver5

Hi, I have a problem with the electronic actuator on my 2.0 115bhp TDCI.

The actuator intermitantly fails, I have read lots of posts regarding replacing the complete turbo or trying to have the actuator repaired but mine still intermitantly work.

On a cold engine the actuator will work and run all day until the engine is turned off and when restarted with a warm engine, the actuator doesnt work, I get the coil plug light flashing on the dash and the car runs with very low power (but not limp home mode) and the arm that controls the vanes does not move forward.

I have had conflicting advise from various garages, I'm prepared to buy a recon turbo with actuator but I'm not sure if the problem could be further down the line and be whatever controls the power to the actuator or the ECU.

Any advise please?

The actuator is electronic and bakes itself common problem( they used to be vacuum operated) to work properly the turbo and the actuator have to mated together using quite complex measuring equipment the ones not done correctly normally run a bit iffy. There used to be a supplier on ebay uk called Mick the turbo who used to supply them complete at reasonable prices the normal trade price for both units new is around £675 + vat plus fitting.

Is that strictly true Andy about the actuator being mated using 'quite complex equipment' there are quite a few adverts on the internet advising that the actuator can be repaired for around £200 and are a simple DIY job to remove and refit.

I'm just dubious as my fault doesnt show first thing in the morning, it only shows when trying to start a warm engine.

Also your a bit out with the price of the new turbo, I was quoted £1040 + vat plus fitting from my main Ford dealer yesterday.

The price is what we paid for units don't touch Ford or Jaguar we used to get ours from a supplier in Elland near Huddersfield. They actuator normally acts up in a warm engine because the electronics get to hot .If you are repairing a electronic actuator and putting it back on the same turbo then there is a chance it will work but we used to have ours calibrated together otherwise there was no gaurentee. If you put your finger on the actuator arm and slightly lift upwards you can normally clear the problem if it clears it shows the actuator is on its way out.You need to take the car to an independent injector/turbo specialist for a conclusive diagnosis,Neither ford or jaguar had proper measuring equipment in there workshops and used to send the cars to to place where we bought the replacement units.

mondeo tdci turbo problems.
I have had the same fault on my 06 Mondeo for months .(limp mode, glow plug light flashing cured by switching ignition off .
Give it a good dose of Millers Eco Power Max in the fuel tank .Not only has it cured the fault ,the performance is 100% better.

Probably if you had taken the inlet manifold and EFR valvbe of and cleaned them you would have had the same effect thats why you need to be certain its the actuator at fault no amount of Millers or any other brand would repair a damaged actuator .

I also Own a 2005 55 plate mondeo.. Its had a brand new engine 20k ago. Had a problem now for a few months with it dying under heavy throttle 4500rpm or higher like when you need to over take.. Dont always do this just now and then. on inspection found the main down rubber hose off the EGR was split so replaced that. The car ran for 2 weeks without a problem then it came back.. Cold start tick over for couple of mins then drive away soon as ya boot it. black smoke out the back then red glow plug light flashes flick off the ignition and back on again it bump starts and all the power is back and works fine then till the following day.

We tried the New EGR valve old one was all sutted up and pipes were taken off and cleaned. Still have the problem No Engine management light on ? on searching for codes it came up with a Glow plug Circuit fault so cleared that and it came back then found no power to the glowplugs so checked the grey relays in the fuse box located under the bonnet next to battery. Replaced those and the power was back. now the circuit is working fine again but still loses power now and then. Does the Actuator playing up leave a fault code on the ecu or not. ???? if it does then my problem could be a vacum or hose somewhere split or damaged. please advise.
