Hi, I tried to tax my vehicle last night but noticed that my MOT has expired on the 27th of February. Will I now receive a automatic fine and/or points on my license? I still have tax until 31 March.

You shouldnt be able to tax your vehicle until the 15th march earliest if you want to run from 31st March. As for MOT just book it in and have proof and if the gendarmes pull you, just show them that.

No - it has changed to the 5th of the month for renewals.

owning a car without a current MOT is not a crime, driving on a public road in a car without a current MOT is, unless you are taking the car to a pre booked MOT. if you have been caught by an ANPR camera you may be prosecuted, get the car booked for an MOT as soon as possible

expired MOT's dont warrant automatic fines, you have to be caught driving without one to get fined either by plod or by one of his cameras

A few years ago after a friend of mine was stopped and given a form to produce documents he discovered his MOT was about a week overdue. He immediately got a new MOT and took both new and old to the police station and he was let off with a warning.

It might be the maximum, but you'll get a small fine (£60, no "points"), unless your vehicle is unroadworthy (not just an MOT failure, but *unroadworthy*, which is different), in which case probably more.

If you are pulled for no MoT by an ANPR-equipped police car, you will get a £60 ticket but no points. The question of continuing your journey after the pull is a bit delicate though.

Interesting to note the OP's concern over lack of just one of the three main requirements and contrast that with the many (thousands?) who don't bother with any of them.

Magistrates are supposed to take your earnings into account when setting fines.
