2001 1.2 easytronic break down with F displayed - michelle1971
Hi.Have seen comments in October regarding the above problem and wanted to know if the person threading has had any code responses.

My 51 reg Corsa broke down flashing F yesterday and wouldn't do anything.Called AA they towed to to local garage.Local garage state will cost in region of £1800 and then it still might not be resolved and I might want to consider scrapping! This really is not an option. Am I right in thinking if I can get the ECU codes someone might be able to guide me in the right direction?I hope so because short of losing all my hair and the clothes off my back I am worried, very worried. Thanks for any help.

I take it the garage it was taken to didn't read the fault codes then? Guesswork is usually more expensive than diagnosing the fault that should be staring them in the face had they read the fault codes out.

Thanks for that. They do have the fault codes but were busy when I spoke to them and didn't have them to hand. They promise they will pass them to me tomorrow.I advised them I was speaking with Vauxhall before making my decision, well not quite Vauxhall but knowledgeable people on here who may be able to point me in the right direction!

Hi Michelle, well if you post the fault codes on here then hopefully someone like Screwloose, Topbloke (or someone else) might be able to point you in the right direction.

To anyone who might be able to help I now have the fault codes. They are P1600, P1729 and UOD00.

Thanks for your time and if you can help I am very very grateful.

Michelle

The best definitions that I have:-

P1600 "Loss of keep-alive memory power to ECU - open circuit." Check fuse 2 [7.5 Amp.]

P1729 "4x4 Low switch error." Not on a Corsa it isn't??

The U-code is still in hexadecimal format; but will likely be a CAN communications fault of some kind.

TB will be along later with better definitions.

hi guys , i own a corsa c easytronic and had this fault dec 2008 , its the crank shaft sensor thats at fault , when it goes faulty you get a F on the display and the car wont start , you can disconect the battery for 5 mins and connect again as a get you home but dont rely on it its not a permanent fix , you must change the crank sensor its even diy just one bolt and a plug connector , hope this helps ya all regards rob

The "F" relates to a fault with the easytronic gearbox. I can't see the relationship with it being the crankshaft sensor at fault. Something like a crankshaft sensor fault should put on the car/spanner light.

easytronic clutch fluid needs changeing every two years same as brake fluid (same stuff) however this can only be done with the tech 2 or similar and a pressure bleeder once this has been done then the clutch bite point has to be learnt this is set through tech2 also, i am not sure as to what you can buy seal wise but you will need to take a trip to a decent garage that is capable of doing the job/right equipment. With regards to other posts i had two easytronic cars in at work back to back one had a crank sensor fault which was replaced and cured the f fault, the other was in need of brake light bulbs x 2 strange as it seemed the hi level brake light was working but i can only assume that as its a led lamp it did not draw enough current for the ecu to "see it" crazy that a crank sensor fault and something as simple as two brake light bulbs could tottally disable a car, Regards TB

I have an F flashing in the display and have lost all power. In June 2008 I had a similar experience, the local Vauxhall dealer diagnosed Code P1731 and P1700. It cost me £723.05 for a replacement module. At that time the car had only done 19000 miles, it has now only done 27000 miles! Any suggestions??

Had my car for 8 years no problem then F code and all lights came up and could not start.

The computer logs the fault but does not allow a restart

The first thing is you may be able to restart it by disc***ecting the battery, this may reset the restart and still hold the fault code HOWEVER this does not fix the fault and it may return at any time so be prepared at all times to pull over.

If the F code comes up you can still carry on driving BUT be carefull it is warning you that soemthing is wrong.

Thanks to this site I did not immediately got to a Vauxhall service as I can confirm that they will read the computer and identify 1 of 4 computer units inside BUT I have heard that they may not interigate the individual computer units to find the actual fault code and just state that you have to have a new Computer unit at £400+ and this is not necessarily the fault.

I have traced an independant Vauxhall engineer with all the computer analysis equipment, he came to my house plugged it in and then analyised the computer and then the ECU and said it is probably the Crankshaft Sensor , I have since bought one at £48 and will try it out next week. He also updated the computer software version.

This F code problem is not in the customers interest as ONLY a vauxhall computer diagnostic can identify the POSSIBLE fault. My computer had 4 different faults (gearbox, lights , another and crankshaft sensor) logged but the engineer identified the non possible ones.

I am not a partner of this engineer and hope the website monitors will allow me to let others tknow of him name of Simon tel 07759216205 operates in SW area.

I will follow this up with my findings as I am not sure how an inductor (crankshaft sensor ) can go faulty as there are no moving parts , I suspect it is just dirty!!

Good luck

Hi my wifes car has just developed this problem with 'f' and the engine management lights coming on and off randomly thought it might be the crankshaft sensor from the descriptions on the other posts, changed it tonite but still no fix then with it being dark we noticed that when the engine is started and the brake pressed with no lights on the front passenger side light comes on with the brake lights, when the lights are turned on and no brake is being pressed the brake lights all flicker and 'f' appears on the dash with the engine management light so with this in mind its got to be an electrical fault somewhere i hope so anyway and its nothing to do with the gearbox or it will be scrap with just over 81000 on the clock, will investigate some more and keep you all posted

This vehicle runs a self test diagnostic on the brake light on start up.

any fault, even a duff bulb in any light WILL flag the "F" on the dash.

You have to get this fault fixed first.

then "if" the fault persists it needs the gearbox ECU code read.

but from your description it's the brake light fault.

Spot on!

Turns out it was a dodgy brake light bulb after all

Narrowed it down by taking each out one at a time and found it was the passengers side changed it and now no errors and all works fine! Thanks!

Hi been reading through threads and I have same problem flashing f and will not start easytronic corsa my car was shuddering when I was stopping at junctions beforehand, its my first car so asked a mechanic I knew for some advice and he noticed there was no clutch break fluid but just read in this forum u cant put it in without bleeding it he obviously not specialised in automatics. I wnt to the garage and topped it up with these fluids then the f came up and cut it out could this b the reason? loads of people have said it sounds like clutch actuator after reading this im hoping for crank sensor fault anyone help? Thanx
