Daewoo Matiz Heater Matrix Replacement - graham woods
Hi There, can any one out there guide me through replacing the heater matrix (core) in my 1999 daewoo matiz. Is it easier to remove the seats and the whole carpet to gain access to it, or will that not be neccessary. Also do i have to remove the centre console, with the gear stick on it, and do i have to remove the whole plastic surround that houses the stereo, etc Seems like a long job to do?. Any help and advice very welcome, Thank-You in anticipation. Graham.

The book time is nigh on 3 hours so it must be a fair bit of stripping
My approach?
Buy a haynes?
OR
Go to a scrappy and look in a smashed one to see how much dismantling will need to be done
OR
A new approach i now use is take lots of digital oictures of what goes where and stick them on the hard drive at work, that way they are stored forever and the camera was only £15 complete from tescos
OR
Pay someone its sounds a nasty job, but someone will take it on

Graham,

Is this because of the wet drivers floor, as mentioned in your previous posting?

I thought you said the carpet didn't smell at all, so apart from my initial suggestion what makes you think it's the matrix that's leaking?.

Hi There Dave, yes, i am just assuming that it is the heater matrix, as you suggested earlier, although i have not been able to take a proper look yet..I cant think what else it could be . Have you Changed one of these before in this model,as i am not sure what to remove first. Cheers, Graham.

No Graham, I've never had the misfortune to change a heater matrix on a Daewoo (or any other car come to that).

If you're not loosing coolant, and the carpet doesn't smell of it, then I can't see it being the matrix though. As you've previously mentioned the carpet is only wet on the drivers side, then I would start looking elsewhere before going to the trouble of changing the matrix.

I think changing a heater matrix is a rotten job on most cars.
The few I've looked at made it look like the car was built round the damn things. Whole dash out for the two I've had a go at in the past.

Yep, i'll agree with that; my last Omega had a matrix leak, a dose of radweld stopped it leaking completely for 18 months, by which time I'd run it into the ground and pensioned it off anyway.
