Volvo V40 bonnet release cable snapped

Volvo V40 bonnet release cable snapped - Weeneilly
The bonnet release on my Volvo V40 (1998 1.8 GDi) was loose this morning. I tried pulling the wire with pliers and pulled about 10 inches of wire out. The cable has either snapped or the end come out at the bonnet catch.

Does anyone know a way to release the bonnet without smashing the grill?

Or more usefully as you appear to prefer to try and do it yourself, have a gander at www.volvoclub.org.uk/forum/index.php and use the search engine to see if previous occurences are documented; I haven't checked but you may be lucky. If nothing is found, register and post a question in the appropriate forum; the website represents an active UK Volvo community and help is usually forthcoming.

Other useful sites are www.volvospy.com and forums.swedespeed.com/zeromain?id=3 , the latter being mainly US based - so lacking for D5 owners as an example - but potentially of help to you.

Not to get the dealer to open it but one of his fitters will probably say "poke a long screwdriver etc.!!!"

thanks for your help .I had already called the dealer who said that they would cut the grill and that it would cost £400 so I am looking at ways to do it myself

Go to Liverpool.Park on double yellow lines and leave a note on windscreen-'Wallet and keys locked under bonnet-Back soon'.After five mins. your bonnet will be opened. Hey Presto!!!!!
