Vauxhall Agila (2008 – 2014) At A Glance

3/5

+Surprisingly spacious small five-door city car. Makes best sense with 1.0 petrol engine. Much better than old Agila. Rebadged version of Suzuki Splash.

-Competition is strong and little to recommend the Agila over the likes of the Hyundai i10.

Insurance Groups are between 5–12
On average it achieves 89% of the official MPG figure

Which versions of the Kia Picanto use a torque converter gearbox?

"Can you help me identify the manufacturing years in which the Kia Picanto was fitted with a torque converter rather than a semi-automatic gearbox? I've had several different answers from dealers and Kia themselves. Can you also suggest any other similar-sized cars which have torque converter gearboxes, or which you feel have good semi-automatic and would suit an older driver doing around 3,000 miles a year? Electric is not an option. "
I believe the torque convertor was fitted up until June 2020. Other options includes: Suzuki Splash, Vauxhall Agila, Hyundai i10, Kia Venga, Hyundai ix20.

Which 5-door, supermini size car with a high seating position can I get for £5000?

"My disabled step-daughter is looking for a new car. She has Ehler-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which affects the muscles and joints, so needs something with a higher seating position to make it easier to get in and out of. Five doors are mandatory and she would prefer an automatic – but might be willing to settle on a manual for the right car. We’re thinking something supermini sized and she has a budget of £5000. Are there any cars you would recommend?"
By far the best to meet this brief is a Suzuki Splash 1.2 4-speed auto, or the equivalent Vauxhall Agila 1.2 4-speed auto (effectively the same car).

I want a car that has a spacious boot, good fuel economy and is cheap to insure/tax?

"What car is best for me? I like a high driving position, boot space for camping, good fuel economy, ideally some bodywork protection/trims, good all-round driving visibility, cheap to insure/tax."
Cheap, a Dacia Duster. Even cheaper, a Dacia Sandero Stepway. If you prefer an MPV to an SUV, then a Hyundai ix20 or KIA Venga. Looking smaller and second hand, then a Suzuki Splash or Vauxhall Agila. Check them out at http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/

What automatic car would you suggest for an elderly couple?

"We have decided to swap our 2003 automatic Honda Jazz for an automatic car that has high seats and is suitable for low mileage. What would you recommend for a couple that are over 70 years old?"
Check the small and tall Suzuki Splash and Vauxhall Agila first. This found some: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/used-prices/Suzuki/Splash/2013/?q=1.2+Automatic/
