So I'm wanting to get a full exhaust kit on my car. YES I know it's a diesel blah blah. But I want some sound on my car.. My question is would my car output some decent sound (better than stock lol) or not as I still have the DPF intact? Yes I know I can have the dpf removed and it would make a huge difference but the thing is my car is already remapped and I heard you have to remap your car again when you get a dpf delete. Side note: My car is already remapped and the EGR is deleted. Below is the the kit I would install: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114130039273 Our area is plagued by cars which have had the exhausts modified to sound louder. They are a b***** nuisance, the drivers are clearly very childish if they think a noisy car is better or makes anybody admire them. If you want to make more noise take it to a racetrack and rev it till it blows the engine. Main dealers tend to have their used prices set by a central team and there will be little scope for haggling locally anyway. But do check any car you are considering on the pricing tool on the HJ home page of this site just to make sure you are not overpaying a lot.  As for the 107, it’s probably worth at best £1200-£1500 selling privately looking at what sellers on Autotrader are asking. However I sense car selling is not in your comfort zone so selling privately is not an option. It can be a lot of hassle with people turning up and making poor offers. We Buy Any Car (WBAC) has been suggested. Expect a very low (three figure) price for a 17 year old car. And you may have to haggle if they reduce the offer when they see the car. But it’s free to get a quote. As long as the Toyota trade in offer is around the same amount as WBAC you might find it’s most convenient to trade it in with the Toyota dealer. Car salesmen get a bad press, including on here, but if you stick to main dealers of reliable makes and do some basic price checks you will reduce the risk. Any car can give problems after you’ve bought it but again you’re reducing the risk by buying a Toyota. It does help to buy locally so you don’t have to travel far if it needs any post sale work. Toyota after sales is well regarded. You won’t get a fantastically cheap bargain but you will take most of the scary stuff out of the equation. (badbusdriver) hjforum1487218 Mon, 20 May 2024 17:52:47 +0000 Thanks for clarifying and suggesting HEV, I am still stuck with my knowledge of cars in the days when you could use a hammer and some baling twine to fix them. I had ruled the Rav 4 out of my list in my head as the insurance groups seem to be quite high compared to others, the reviews are mediocre and they also seem quite expensive for the same mileage as other 4x4's.   I shall add them onto my list to test drive. I wasn't aware about the insurance being high. But as for the rest, what you need to remember is that the RAV4 is liked by people who appreciate actual quality (rather than perceived) and reliability more than image performance/handling and gadgets, so they hold on to them for longer meaning slower depreciation than many rivals. But they don't enjoy being driven hard, when the petrol engine can seem a bit strained and unpleasant. That, along with the CVT auto transmission means that motoring journalists also don't really like them.  But if you plan to keep the car long term, there are few better choices.  Worth bearing in mind that on cars serviced within the Toyota dealer network, Toyota will extend the warranty a year at a time up to 10 years old. So a 2018 car could potentially have another 4 years manufacturers warranty.    Motoring discussion badbusdriver Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198187 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198187&v=t&m=1487218 Volkswagen Golf - 2016 VW Golf panoramic sunroof (leaseman) hjforum1487217 Mon, 20 May 2024 17:44:55 +0000 I may be prejudiced as I've never found any positive pleasure out of having a panoramic sunroof, but the negative possibilities would steer me well clear, and I doubt whether you'll find many advocates. (Adampr) hjforum1487216 Mon, 20 May 2024 17:35:50 +0000 I think the point is that the current Karoq is 2wd and keeps getting stuck? Having just been through a very similar situation; swapping a Karoq for something a bit more capable, I ended up with a Suzuki Vitara.  It's not as comfy or quiet as the Karoq (mine was a 1.5 petrol) but it does have selectable 4wd drive with various modes.  The boot may be smaller than the Karoq in pure numbers, but it feels bigger somehow.  Interior space is fine too. I also tried a Subaru XV, which was nicer and would be far better off-road, but is more expensive to buy and run.  The same is true of a Forester. The only options you have for a 4wd PHEV at your budget are the Mitsubishi Outlander or Vauxhall Grandland.  Both have their appeal, but I've never driven either.  The Mitsubishi is likely to be more reliable and capable. For a little more, you could get a Jeep Renegade 4xe, but the boot is tiny. There is a 4x4 Karoq available (along with Seat, Audi and VW equivalents).  I'm not sure how good the 4wd on it actually is.  A Skoda Yeti (the Karoq's) predecessor would probably be my preference of I wanted a VW product. The benefit however is that you shouldn’t have to argue the toss to have such faults rectified. It can however require repeat visits and take time to resolve. In the case of our Golf estate (no sunroof) I took it home found the spare wheel well was two or three inches deep in water. Not simply damp. Googling I found it’s a known simple issue with a drain from the rear hatch handle/badge. You would therefore expect it to be checked specifically. The dealer claimed complete surprise and it took two or three weeks to resolve due to their workshop queue.  So I wouldn’t rely on any pre-sales inspection as confirming a car is OK. As for the sunroof, even if it has been fully checked they presumably won’t warrant it beyond a year?  As it’s a known, expensive issue, perhaps it’s best to look for one without the panoramic roof. Unless, as galileo suggests, you feel lucky. They do not to fully restore older vehicles as a private owner may - eg: stripping off old underseal + application of rust proofing, replacing rubber components unless obviously worn, dealing with surface corrosion of parts that otherwise need no other work etc. A vehicle sold for (say) £3k is likely to go to someone with more limited resources who may sell it on if material work is required.  The buyer of a £20k car may behave differently. I would expect cars they sell are great for a few years but without further care will rapidly deteriorate where a fully restored car may run for much longer without further attention.   I have found that most car windscreens are pitted/scratched after 10 years and when the sun or headlights shines through them vision is affected. (badbusdriver) hjforum1487205 Mon, 20 May 2024 15:24:31 +0000 If your Karoq isn't 4x4 then the answer to whether or not you need 4x4 is no. It does sound like something with a reasonable amount of ground clearance would be a good idea though.  Re hybrid, first is you have missed out HEV. This is a car which can run on electric only for short periods but charges itself. MHEV wont run on electric only, it is just really a beefed up starter motor to make the stop-start system operate quicker, though there may also be a little "boost" from the electric motor when pulling away from a standstill and filling in gaps between gear changes. PHEV is more like HEV but with a bigger battery to enable running for (in some cases) more than 30 miles. But they do need to be plugged in to recharge he battery. Drawbacks?, well in the case of HEV, most economy benefit is gained in urban running, there wont be much difference for someone who spends most of their time on motorways/dual carriageways. With MHEV there won't be a a huge economy difference full stop, typically around 5% in most cases, maybe a little more. With PHEV, cost and weight are the main drawbacks, but if most of your journeys are within the electric only range, could be worth considering.  I really wouldn't worry about water though.  I'd probably be thinking about a Toyota RAV4 (HEV) myself.  Motoring discussion badbusdriver Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198187 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198187&v=t&m=1487205 Toyota X - Scared to buy a car (Falkirk Bairn) hjforum1487204 Mon, 20 May 2024 14:33:11 +0000 Motorpoint - Aygo X https://www.motorpoint.co.uk/used-cars/toyota/aygo-x Lots of choice Motoring discussion Falkirk Bairn Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184&v=t&m=1487204 BMW x1 2918 58k petrol 1.5 - Intermittent no heating (Redcar01) hjforum1487203 Mon, 20 May 2024 14:31:58 +0000 will there be ant fault codes in the computer ? So if you have a car to get rid of and about £13,000 you should be able to get one. Here is one https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404188807549?sort=price-asc&advertising-location=at_cars&make=Toyota&model=Aygo%20X&postcode=L17%200BX&year-from=2024&fromsra You can probably do a deal over the phone. Turn down any extras they offer, if you arent certain you want them. There are others, so if this one is too far away, keep looking on places like Autotrader until you find a local one. Thankfully I returned under my statutory rights for a full refund, but it has made me more wary of making a misstep on my next car. I’ve decided to go via VW approved used now, aware I will be paying more than elsewhere but there we are. Anyway, I have found a great looking 2016 Golf TSI that I’m keen on, but it has a panoramic sunroof. In my paranoia after my previous experience I am googling everything I can about these roofs and seeing that many have had significant issues with them. I’d be really grateful for any advice on whether you’d avoid cars with these sunroofs generally, or whether the fact that it has almost 50k miles on it, and coming via an approved used VW dealer with all the associated checks means I can be more confident? EDIT: The VW dealer has told me that this car was recalled for assessment when VW recalled all cars this potentially could affect  - and it was assessed as not requiring any further work or repair. Should this give me extra peace of mind??! Any advice really appreciated Thanks Motoring discussion Tom Macleod Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198185 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198185&v=t&m=1487179 Toyota X - Scared to buy a car (Mich52) hjforum1487178 Mon, 20 May 2024 11:15:56 +0000 I'm a lone shy woman and I don't have anyone with car knowledge to go with me to buy a car. Any advice please/or car make suggestions? ??.   I just want a good reliable car of course, as I've had to pay £500 on my current one for one thing or another and I don't think it's right to keep paying so much on an old jalopy!  Salesmen scare me.  I got my current Citroen from a mechanic up my road for £4,000 back in the day, but he's retired now and moved away.    Thank you in advance!   Motoring discussion Mich52 Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184&v=t&m=1487178 any - Modern petrol Estates - any known vices? I saw one too on Saturday, unfortunately in a layby with its bonnet up, as was common in the 70s when mechanics or owners didn't use the right type of antifreeze in the cooling system. But you're right, still a lovely-looking thing even today.  It's a pity that they had to retain the roll-over bar and central support to the windscreen, but Triumph made a prototype without those components and the body flex and scuttle shake was horrendous.  Motoring discussion craig-pd130 Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198180 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198180&v=t&m=1487175 Any - Any (Steveieb) hjforum1487174 Mon, 20 May 2024 08:19:27 +0000 My son picked up an Astra Van with the Isuzu engine and won’t part with it even though he gets requests most weeks. The Frontera appeared in the UK in 1991 as a rebadged 1989 Isuzu Mu, which in turn was based on the Isuzu Faster pick-up from the year before. Vauxhall using some good sense sharing things with Isuzu, same with Monterey which was a rebadged Trooper, not forgetting that gem of a 1.7 Diesel engine which still powers numerous Astra vans which prove impossible to overtake. I liked the Frontera a lot, it was a heavy beast though having a full ladder chassis so would have benefitted more from having the 3.1 litre Trooper engine shoe horned in or even the 2.8 from the previous Trooper. Morphing pick ups into shooting brake 4x4's provides tough and still fairly smiple vehicles, Toyota and Mitsubishi been doing this for years with 4 Runner/Surf and Challenger etc, generally they change the rear spings for coils and soften the suspension settings, though as i recall Frontera was still on leaf rear springs, nothing wrong with that, Toyota 70 series Landcruisers are still on leafs and still in high demand  as the best and toughest off roader one can have short of military designs. Had many good experiences delivering Network Q cars, many of which had only been used for 6 months on the staff car scheme with very low mileage, one memorable experience was delivering an Astra turbo flying machine to a tiny Vx dealership in a SW village possibly Somerset or Dorset i can't remember where, as i unstrappped this rare beasty a lovely lady of obviously advanced years (still a most attractive woman) came bounding up the road excited as a teenager getting her first pony, she'd bought this one and was so happy to see it arrive. They were certainly fairly primitive, even for the time!. The Frontera appeared in the UK in 1991 as a rebadged 1989 Isuzu Mu, which in turn was based on the Isuzu Faster pick-up from the year before.  I seem to recall that the early 2.0i models used the engine from the Opel Manta GTE(!). I also remember that the Frontera performed very poorly in crash tests!. But in reference to GB's comments about being reliable. tough and durable, on (I think) the very last Top Gear of the Clarkson era, he bought a Frontera for a cheap SUV challenge. At one point, their cars were rolled sideways down a steep slope, whereupon Clarkson got in the Frontera (I think it actually ended up on its wheels) fired it up and drove away!.  In the mid 90's I did a very thorough valet on an early Frontera 2.0i Sport 3 door. The chap who bought it considered the Frontera his dream car(!) and bought it using money he was awarded following an accident. The car was already in very good condition, but its new owner wanted it looking as close to new condition as was possible.  I had a look on Ebay following GB's post. There are three Frontera's on there, at least two of which I quite fancy!   Motoring discussion badbusdriver Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198180 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198180&v=t&m=1487161 Any - Any (Xileno) hjforum1487160 Sun, 19 May 2024 19:43:11 +0000 I think the early Fronteras were a bit ropey, Vauxhall's quick attempt to jump on the 4x4 bandwagon in the 90's.
