My ex-hire car warns me when I hit 80mph - does it have a speed limiter?

I've just brought an ex-hire car. While driving it, a warning comes up at 80mph and says the car is at its maximum speed. Do some hire cars have speed limiters in them?

Some cars have warnings that can be set when a pre-set speed is exceeded. Read the driver's manual.
