Buyer was a decent, honest sort. My next post will lilkely be asking for suggestions what to replace the CLK with as a weekends and sunny days car. The CLK has been brilliant, cost £4K 5 years ago and very little has gone wrong other than the usual brakes, suspension components etc needing sorted come MOT time but no big bills at all. It has some electrical and braking issues although no breakdowns yet. I have contacted the dealer several times to book an appointment but they are ignoring my emails and phone calls. I am concerned that the 6 month statutory rights period will be finishing soon and the dealer is just wasting time. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, any faults appearing within the first 6 months are assumed to be present also at the time of purchase. A customer doesn’t have to prove it. However, after 6 months, the onus is with the customer to prove. I would like to know if I would still have consumer rights equivalent to the first 6 months even after the 6 months in the above scenario. From my side, the faults happened in first 6 months and I informed the dealer to investigate it but the dealer didn’t intentionally act promptly and ignored all communication. (Engineer Andy) hjforum1487787 Fri, 31 May 2024 12:38:21 +0000 Thanks, that's a really useful link.  Can they be trusted?  I can't really understand anyone asking this question and expecting a worthwhile answer.  In real life - and especially in the car market - buyers can do little more than ask friends or locals for word-of-mouth advice, then put a toe in the water (as you seem to have done) and trust your instincts. Some regulars on here trot out the dictum that all dealers are crooks, which may be an overstatement, but you get the idea.  There is (or certainly was, I bought from them twice) a well established dealership in Cheshire which claimed associations with its local Trading Standards, so there may be others.  In the end you can fret endlessly and get nowhere. I think the big difference nowadays is that finances considerably tighter for many ordinary people than was the case in (say) 2019, plus a high level of societal uncertainty and non-financial worries mean people are far more cautious about what they spend their money on. This is of particular importance to people on lower incomes who would be buying cars under £10 where inflation has hit far harder than at the top end.  It also means that they are having to consider older, higher mileage cars, possibly with less maintenance history and in lesser condition, maybe from sources who previously they may not have trusted. I've seen many ads from main dealers where they've been reselling pxes where they've not bothered to even clean / detail to any degree the inside of those cars, yet they are selling them for what 5 years ago would've been silly prices and with only 3 month 'warranties'. I wonder how many are secretly crossing their fingers as such sales go through... If passing the next MOT wasn't going to require a big expense, why wouldn't a seller do that?. It would make the vehicle much more attractive to a potential buyer. The fact that it is being sold with such a short MOT suggests it needs a lot of work.  As for your question on mpg, when I started cleaning windows I was running a swb high roof Iveco Daily with the 2.3 turbo diesel. My average was 29mpg.  If the Boxer you are looking at is a standard van conversion (I'd say unlikely with the 2.8 engine) it would do more, maybe 35. But my assumption is a coach body built on a chassis cab(?) in which case I'd expect similar mpg to my Iveco, maybe a little less.  But be aware that as your speed increases, the power necessary to push that big bluff body through the air increases a lot. Keep it below 60mph and the effects shouldn't be too bad.  Motoring discussion badbusdriver Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198242 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198242&v=t&m=1487780 Peugeot Boxer SWB - MPG for 1995 Peugeot Motorhome (elekie&a/c doctor) hjforum1487779 Fri, 31 May 2024 00:27:07 +0000 I would suggest you take a look at previous mot history before going any further. Even as manufacturers rack up big losses, the Administration continues to push out subsidies for a force-fed EV transition. EV manufacturer Lucid this week reported that it lost $684.8 million in the first quarter of the year. That’s $348,124 per car delivered. The good news was that it still aims to produce 9,000 vehicles this year. Toyota sells three times as many cars in a day. They would notice if they had to change them a lot more often than normal - sounds like that is not happening. Perhaps they don't want to admit it, given their financial standing (and personally / professionally for its directors) would seriously go down if they had proverbially backed the wrong horse. I mean, they've said nothing about other issues that have come up (like insurance) that has seriously impacted the second hand value of EVs, which surely would impact their profitability when they sell on EVs and/or have to significantly raise lease costs for customers to offset that. Many established car manufacturers appear to be having serious doubts about plunging into EV production and appear to already be having behind the scenes words with politicians from many Western nations about watering down EV mandates, etc. For the insurance I suppose it will depend if it affects large companies in the same way it does individuals.  It's quite possible insuring cars for large companies is not increasing as much as it is for others. I'd be having doubts as well if I was a manufacturer  - I feel that it's being pushed too quickly which has the opposite affect that the governments want as there is now push back against EVs rather than allowing the sales of EVs to increase naturally over time.  People don't like to feel that they are being pushed into what they can drive. I’m looking at buying a Peugeot Boxer SWB motorhome. The reg is M710 PAG. Registered December 1995. I’m trying to get some figures for MPG. The seller has given me a figure for when he drives “conservatively.” Other than that, I’m finding it tough to find some figures. The engine is 2800cc, Diesel. Can anyone help with the information? Thanks in advance. They would notice if they had to change them a lot more often than normal - sounds like that is not happening. Is it safe? (Engineer Andy) hjforum1487761 Thu, 30 May 2024 16:19:09 +0000 A shame that Mazda main dealers tend to be so variable in quality on the post-sales front. Can that not be said about all makes though? To a small degree - there's always a variation across all makes, but I think Mazda dealers tend to vary more on the maintenance side of things than other Japanese makes.  Aside from perhaps Nissan (post Renault tie-up), the other Japanese makes to tend to congregate nearer the good end; Euro makes nearer the middle and 'British' makes a bit further towards the 'poor' side. (alan1302) hjforum1487756 Thu, 30 May 2024 13:08:55 +0000 The lip in the boot of the Skodas could be solved very easily and cheaply by fabricating a raised platform using the carpets as a template. This could be made out of OSB or ply and covered with 4 way stretch as used by campervan builders. It would look as good as OE and cost just a few quid.  I'll be needing to do this when our Dacia Jogger arrives - will have to look into the 4 way stretch stuff. Here's a quick guide: Toyota Xs are reliable choices! Look at used Aygo Xs in your budget. Do your research online: Features, prices, reliability ratings for Toyota Xs. Bring a friend for support, even if they don't know cars. Moral support! Walk away from pushy salespeople. There are other dealerships. Consider used car garages instead: Might feel less intimidating. Good luck finding your perfect car! Here are some resources to help: [WhichCar? Toyota Reviews](link to WhichCar? And looked without buying at one other. Given what you have said about your nervousness in buying I don’t think they are best for you. They are totally about selling and unless you know your stuff you could end up with a car that’s not suitable.  Of course  main dealers are about selling too but they tend to have salesmen who know something about the models that they stock. In my experience they tend to stay a bit longer in the job and may even be interested in having you as a repeat customer. You may pay a little more but your chances of getting a good car are higher.  Motoring discussion catsdad Motoring discussion http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184 http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=198184&v=t&m=1487751
